Jan Rielaender is Head of Multidimensional Country Reviews at the Development Centre of the Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD). The OECD is an international organization dedicated to enabling mutual exchange and learning between countries with the aim of identifying better policies for better lives.
Jan and his team support developing countries in the design of national development strategies. Building on the OECD’s analytical excellence and modern methods of strategic foresight and governmental learning, Multidimensional Country Reviews have quickly developed into an important new tool of the OECD and are currently being conducted in a growing number of countries in all regions of the world.
Before taking on this role, Jan was Economist at Development Centre’s Africa Desk, where he was the lead author of the annual African Economic Outlook (2014 on global value chains, 2013 on structural transformation and natural resources and 2012 edition on youth employment). Prior to joining the Development Centre in 2011, Jan was Technical Advisor to the OECD’s Partnership for Democratic Governance, supporting fragile states’ building capacity for core government functions. Before that he was an evaluator with both the World Bank and the UN. Jan is a Fulbright Scholar and holds Degrees in Economics and International Relations from Syracuse University and from Technical University Dresden, Germany and has also studied at Yonsei University in South Korea and Lund University in Sweden.
